I am aspiring to be a flight RN and have been searching hi and low for a book to help me learn ahead of time. It has the critical care drips like I've always dreamed of, which is actually extremely helpful for the ED! Just everything you could dream of....it'll take me quite awhile to get through!!! SO GLAD I BOUGHT IT!
Excellent information and content. Extremelly useful either as a study guide or to prepare a presentation for students. As a plus, a subscription to JBL web page for additional review material via a registration process and a code number to redeem free access on line for a year about the subject.
I just started reading and was first surprised to see small typographic errors like "elleclive perlormance lime" in a book that I thought should be inscrutable. Just now I read a paragraph describing that "cerebral blood vessels respond to the decrease in carbon dioxide by vasodilation." I don't know if I should keep reading and risk that I am getting a compromised text. I suggest you not invest in this book until the publisher revisits it and corrects problems in the next edition.Critical Care TransportJust read the description of "subarachnoid hemorrhage" described as bleeding between the arachnoid and dura mater (instead of pia mater, which would be correct)[American (AAOS); UMBC, (2009-11-13). Another outstanding book from AAOS. Very well written and the topics covered in depth. If you’re looking for an actual textbook on Critical Care (flight medic/flight nurse) this is the one to check out.
This is a great, all around textbook for the critical care course of study.
This was a required text for my Air Medical Crewman Course. It was cheaper on amazon than anywhere else. I read mixed reviews but found the material to be current and helpful. It is a good blend of material for the different disciplines involved in critical care transport. I found it quite relevant to our fixed wing/helo class.
I used it to study for both the CFRN and FP-C. I was not a flight crew member at the time and did very well on the exam. I feel this book prepared me well.
The convenience of an electronic copy is almost outweighed by the amount of errors in the text. Last paragraph I read was cut off mid sentence and then the next one told me that an adult dose for morphine was 4-8mg IV and a pediatric was 5mg/kg. An astute eye will pick up the typos and anyone using critical thinking skills will know when to second guess the text but it is an inconvenience to have to do so! Just a heads up. I hope they correct this for future versions…it is kind of a poor showing on the publishers part.
