This is a nice book. I purchased it both on the audio and the paperback. The paperback book is not only a good read, it's printed nicely. That's not always true of printed books. This is nice paper... lightweight yet still a good smooth grain paper with excellent legible print. Maybe slightly smaller print then average but it's so clear that it was worth mentioning.The book itself is a lot of simple things written in new and interesting ways. Even though I knew a lot of the stuff, I still found it to be helpful hearing it in the way the author presented it. If you need council, this book is great. If you are someone who gives a lot of advice to your friends, this is also a very excellent book because he breaks down certain aspects of maturity and working through problems in teachable ways.Lastly, it's clear the author is a Christian and he uses the word God often enough in the book. If you don't like hearing the word God and you don't like mild religious overtones you may not enjoy this book. However, he uses it very sparingly and most of his psychology is not based on any religious content. It's a helpful book by an author who also happens to believe in the Creator of the universe.
I have been studying challenging behaviors and how to respond to them for the past fifteen years. This book, I must say, is now a part of my top 5 list of books to read on dealing with difficult personalities. I like this book, because it focuses on the reader and gives them helpful and practicul advise on how to deal with people who drive you crazy. The material is easy to read and understand. The examples are humorous and real life examples from the author's life and profession.If one looking to change their difficult person, and can accept that the change starts with themselves, then this is the book for them. It is a gold mine of information that will start a transformation beyond what they could have ever imagined.
I was searching for something to read because I was having a horrible issue at work. I just did not know what to do. My co workers were blaming stuff on me and making me not want to come to work. The boss was too hard to talk to, and I did not want to have to play the "he said this" "he did this" games. I was searching for something that was based on the word of God and this book came up. I decided to buy it even though I thought the price might be a little bit high.I am so glad that I did. I will be referring to this book for the rest of my life. I will probably read it over numerous times. For those of you that are not seeking a biblical based book, it will work for you also. There are only a few references to the bible in this book, however it is perfect for anyone.Right away I started putting the information that I read into my daily life and things started to change. The main point of the book is that you can not change someone. But you can change your reaction to someone. It helps you to decide if it is really time to leave that person, job, etc. or if it is worth trying to save. It puts the responsibility on us, the reader. It teaches us how we can stay in control and quit giving others control. It helps us to decipher the truth from an emotional reaction. It helps us to see the other persons side.I read this as I was waiting for my review at work. I am so glad that I did. My boss kept putting off my review and now I know that it was a good thing. I will approach our meeting in a completely different way and I am confident that I will make my point, and help him to understand, without playing the blame game. I will update this review after so that I can tell you that it really did make all the difference!
I found the book to be helpful. Even though I don't encounter too many people who drive me crazy, it's a handy book to have and to understand how I can deal with difficult-to-relate-to people. I have more than one and have lent out the book to a couple of friends who actually have to cope with crazy people at their workplace and within their family as a way to encourage and support them.I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with how to deal with difficult personalities he/she comes into contact with on a regular/daily basis.
I've enjoyed reading this and digesting it pieces at a time over the last few months. It came at just the right time in my life when my "crazy person" was starting to affect me so completely it was bleeding into other relationships. This book teaches how to let go and take control of the only change you really can expect in those relationships: yourself. It's an in depth explanation with practical uses and drives home the idea that you should, "Never let someone live rent free in your head." Definitely a great read I'll be referencing again throughout my life.
I have a "crazy" coworker and this book has helped me retain my sanity. Dr. Bechtle writes with a great sense of humor and his points were spot on. Made me realized the things I can do to help the situation since the only person I can really control is me! Highly recommended if you have a crazy in your world!
I just keep this in my office and give it out to our overwhelmed employees. It helps people laugh and understand how to deal with difficult situations. The title and book cover illustration alone gives you a chuckle and a bit of easy, common sense advice. The book is even better than therapy!
This is my second reading and it has gotten me through yet another seriously rough patch dealing with a family member's substance abuse issues. Sanity in a sea of chaos and fear. I very highly recommend this book to anyone who is unfortunate to be at the effect of another person's poor choices and happens to love that person. Can't thank the author enough!
