This book didn’t have value for me. While I felt like the author was sincere enough, I didn’t feel like the message warranted an entire book, and ended up feeling a little self indulgent and really repetitive. I never felt like it got beneath a surface level, and I walked away feeling a bit discouraged because it hammers on how grim fostering and adoption are without bringing the reader out the other end feeling empowered or encouraged. I wanted to love it, but I really didn’t.
Heavy religious tones in this book that just were too much. The book was not organized well and didn’t hold my interest. Gave up a quarter of the way in.

Brings us back to the core truth the hope we have in Jesus Christ even in the biggest storms of Foster/Adoptive parenting.Validates one's "feeling alone or isolated" on this journey and sage wisdom in finding others who are on the journey with you or that you can "truly" lean on. This book is essential for every Foster/ Adoptive Parents toolbox.
This books was a great read. We are in the middle of becoming licensed foster parents and this was both informational and encouraging in many ways. I would highly recommend it.

Great book to help understand trauma that can occur in children and the effect it has on them and their families. Great focus of hope and methods for overcoming these challenges.
Mike's book has been a refreshing read that's filled with hope. If you follow Mike and Kristen Berry's blog (Confessions of an Adoptive Parent), or podcast (The Honestly Adoption Podcast), it'll be very familiar with their honest and transparent approach. If you are on the foster care or adoption journey, or considering it, or know someone that is I highly recommend the book.
As an adoptee the book gave me a lot of insight in life from my adoptive parents point of view. I think it is a must read for parents.
