Overall the book was fantastic. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is even ok with reading a harem/monstergirl book. For anyone who likes the genre, buy this immediately and start reading. You can thank me later.This book is actually kind of unusual in that I was a little put off by the first 5% (some of the setup with his family is kind of overdramatic). But as it goes the story gets stronger and stronger.The main character has a good arc, with a great sense of his struggles to deal with a crazy world he ends up in. He is a believable screwup, both with the women surrounding him, and his own emotions. And the combat ( his specialty) was excellent.The side characters are relatable and sympathetic, and the twists in the dungeon with the final boss were pretty much perfect, especially when you realize the work it took the author to make everything line up. By the last 10% I was pretty much cheering the whole time.If I could give it more than five stars I would. I don't want to put too much pressure on the author, but for a debut novel it is incredibly well done, and I would buy more in a heartbeat. Please keep writing, and take my money!
Normally, I’m a little hesitant to pick up new authors. Especially when they only have one book, but the positive ratings and Amazon’s incessant “recommending†wore me down and I’m glad it did.The story, even without the sex scenes, is interesting if a little loose. I’m hoping the author finds something more grounded in the second book to really cement the storyline, otherwise it’s just a long list of excuses to get laid. Which is nothing wrong if that’s what this book is supposed to be. I’m just hoping for something more than “ooh, twilight. Scary-.â€The first sex scene felt clunky, but the author finds his groove by the second. It just felt like I was hearing a virgin explain his first time. Too much emphasis on certain body parts. It’s a “show, don’t tell†thing. Exposition isn’t needed for grinding.I am gonna inform readers that the author is a self admitted furry and some of the ladies are more animal than human (Animal faces don’t do it for me, but maybe you?).I’m hoping the author doesn’t go the way of many harem tropes and include guys. That’s just an open-relationship or orgy genre and I’m tired of that. Do harem, right.Can’t wait for the second and can’t wait to see what Laina does with that tongue!Update: (since Amazon won’t let me post in my own comments)Contains: MF, MFF, M(FF), hucow, and (obviously) monster/creature play.(Thankfully) there is no femdom, humiliation, cheating, or netorare. Terry is a very thorough lover and not some boorish dominating force. The characters are very “real†in that aspect.
This is what an erotic novel should be. It is a shiny example of perfection when this genre is done right. First, it has a very well thought out and executed plot. It is not just sex sex sex with some semblance of a plot inbetween. Second, the sex is common and descriptive but it is written in such a way that it only adds to the plot making it better. It does not read like a separate story when a sex scene comes up like so many other books. Third, the mc and his companions are decently fleshed out with their own motivations and desires. They are believable real people rather than sex dolls with no mind. For all the reasons above i would highly recommend this book. Even if you don't generally like harem novels this book is still worth the read.
This book captured my attention in the first 2-3 pages and kept me excited and wondering what will happen next through most of the book. What was funny is that I actually found it so unexpectedly good in the first 2 chapters that I stopped reading to start this review. I then kept reading and updated it as I went.The books that are most similar to this would be Tamer king of dinosaurs, super sales on super heroes, wild wastes, Valens legacy and succubus. Each of these series are the kings of the harem/monster girl genre and this book also stands at the pinnacle of that genre with adult content, varied women, and a well thought out story that also shows good character creation and development.The writing is well done and there are a lot of intelligent details that don’t really get pointed out but if you have the knowledge are fun to see. The story is fun, well thought out, and has a lot of adult moments with different or unexpected mashups of girls (monster girl harem). Honestly, I was sold after the first chapter. Even my favorite few series (The land chaos seed, the way of the shaman, tamer, super sales on super heroes, Valens legacy and a few lesser known ones) have not pulled me into the story and mindset/righteousness of the main character that quickly. I really hope this series continues and I hope it becomes much more popular. It is a steal for the $3 that it’s up for. It is a fairly long book. If any have read tamer or Valens legacy this is probably 25-50% longer than each of those books.
If the genre is not your thing, don't buy it. However, it is an excellent example of the the monster girl genre and extremely well written. Almost no discernible grammatical or spelling errors which generally plague the self-published indie author realm. Similar to the Heartstone Saga, but better in almost every imaginable way. MC is more interesting and introspective without being whiny. The central conceits are better formulated and, again, it is much, much better written.
